Winter at the water's edge

The Off Season

Winter add-on: fire, mulled wine, penguin watching

Your front row to winter

Perched on the original wharf in Stanley, beneath the shadow of The Nut, the 1850s Bond Store stands where sea meets stone.

Winter arrives here without apology.

Storm fronts roll across Bass Strait. Fishing boats creak against their moorings. The horizon darkens and salt air moves straight from the sea to your door.

Inside, the fire is real.
The stone walls hold warmth.
Steam rises from the courtyard sauna.
A deep bath sits beneath the skylight, positioned for stargazing while weather gathers outside.
At dusk, little penguins return home along the shoreline.

This is not an escape from winter.

This is front row to it.

Winter at the Water’s Edge is a limited seasonal experience created exclusively for guests of The Bond Store. An invitation to embrace Tasmania’s Off Season in its most elemental form.

Warmth. Sea. Salt. Story.

The Winter Experience

Available May to August

Settle into a cosy stay in an 1850s stone warehouse on Stanley’s original wharf and take advantage of this winter-only add-on.

Your fire is set, ready to light.
The deep skylit bath and private sauna await.
As dusk descends, head to the waterfront to watch penguins waddle ashore.
Then warm up with your mulled wine kit including Tasmanian pinot, and adults’ hot chocolate with Hellyers Road whisky.

Winter add-on for two: $95.
Accommodation price separate.

Your winter ritual includes:

  • Lighting a real timber fire inside a 170-year-old stone building
  • Stepping between the private courtyard sauna and crisp sea air
  • Watching storm fronts roll across Bass Strait
  • Listening for penguins returning to shore at dusk
  • Drawing a deep bath beneath the skylight
  • Enjoying Tasmanian wine and local produce beside the fire

Before roads connected Stanley to the rest of Tasmania, ships waited in this harbour for weather to change. Produce rested inside these stone walls until the sea allowed it to move.

Winter still sets the rhythm here.

A person wearing a white dressing gown and slippers stands outside the Bond Store Stanley, opening the door of a barrel-shaped wooden sauna. Potted plants and a fountain add charm, with a wooden fence in the background.
A person with long hair sits on a sofa reading a book, facing a wood-burning stove. A glass of red wine sits on a round table nearby. The setting appears cosy, with soft lighting and stone walls in the background.

A warm Tasmanian welcome

Alongside the winter experience, every Bond Store stay includes a generous selection of Tasmanian produce waiting in the kitchen.

Guests will find:

  • Tasmanian granola, yoghurt, honey and jam

  • Fresh local free-range eggs

  • Tasmanian cheese and crackers

  • Tasmanian sparkling wine, chilled

  • Tasmanian chocolate

  • Blue Hills honey coated cashews

  • Juice, milk and butter

A De’Longhi coffee machine is ready for slow morning espresso or warm milk for evening hot chocolate by the fire.

Local flavours. Slow mornings. Thoughtful touches.
